"Our religious experience leads us to place a special value on truth, equality, simplicity and peace. These testimonies, as they are known, are lived rather than written. They lead Quakers to translate their faith into action by working locally and globally for social justice, to support peacemakers and care for the environment."

Quakers and friends sing and play

At one of the regular music sessions at Le Bon Croissant Pete Eiseman-Renyard performed “Pretty Penny” – I felt we should go and repeat it in Barclays Bank, Crouch End following the peaceful protest example of many UkUncut sit-ins all over the country targetting companies that are using tax evasion methods to ensure they do not pay a full amount of tax at a time of cuts to many vital services.

We did not go in as a group of Quakers, but of the seven people taking part, five are/had been attenders at Quaker meetings.

“Behind their hedge they don’t plant wheat
They don’t cut corn, they don’t pick tea
They don’t dig coal, they don’t forge steel.
They just push numbers all abot
They push too hard, we bail them out
Just to keep their hands on Fortunes’ wheel.”
