Ripple of water

"Our religious experience leads us to place a special value on truth, equality, simplicity and peace. These testimonies, as they are known, are lived rather than written. They lead Quakers to translate their faith into action by working locally and globally for social justice, to support peacemakers and care for the environment."

QCA 2010 AGM News

Friends House hosted Quaker Concern for Animals’ 2010 AGM on Saturday, 8 May.

As the speaker (see below) invited for the afternoon represented the Movement for the Abolition of War (MAW), to which QCA have been affiliated for over a year now, the Forum held during the morning session was entitled Peace to All Beings

Ann Johnson facilitated the session, reporting that she and Friend Bill Palethorpe, inspired by the Remembrance for the Animals service at the Animals’ War Memorial in London, and by the purple poppies produced by Animal Aid, had succeeded in getting permission to attend Eastbourne Remembrance Service formally and lay their purple poppy wreath. They had the added advantage of considerable media interest. Ann offered advice to friends who wish to arrange similar representation in their own towns and QCA are hoping that this year, there will more than the three held in 2009.

Ann has been invited, and has accepted, to be QCA representative for her Area Meeting, Sussex East; this means that QCA will now have access to 8 Local Meetings.

Also in Eastbourne, Bill and Ann have successfully lobbied their local council to ban the sale of foie gras on council-controlled land. Once again, Ann offers advice if friends wish to try to involved their own councils.

A fascinating and moving address by MAW’s Lesley Docksey followed the morning’s business agenda.
