"Our religious experience leads us to place a special value on truth, equality, simplicity and peace. These testimonies, as they are known, are lived rather than written. They lead Quakers to translate their faith into action by working locally and globally for social justice, to support peacemakers and care for the environment."

Trafalgar Square Silent Peace Vigil laid down

Friends from different London meetings who have kept the monthly Trafalgar Square peace vigil without fail for 7 years since May 1st 2004, have sadly decided to lay it down. This is due to the death, illness or re-location out of London of stalwart supporters.

So, on May 7th 2011, we held our joint laying down and 7th anniversary vigil.

However, this is not the end.

Some Friends who attended the special meeting called recently to discern the future of the vigil have decided that there should continue to be some form of Witness to the Quaker Peace Testimony in Trafalgar Square as the vigil has been a witness as well as outreach.

These Friends are in the process of discerning the nature of the witness, keeping in mind this year of the 350th anniversary of the Peace Testimony.
